Digging
At the moment my husband and I are carrying out a renovation on a property that we have bought, we have seen all of the property developing programmes and sat in the luxury of our warm, dry home on the comfy sofa thinking if they can do it so can we. It is going well but it is such hard work. Last night I was in a trench over a meter deep digging out soggy clay for the foundations of the extension. When I looked at the pile of clay I had shifted I thought I had done well but seemed to have made no impact on the level of the foundations at all. I wont be digging again in a hurry, I am suffering this morning, back aching and arms and shoulders with constricted movements. I will have to find some unsuspecting victim to take my place in the trenches….any volunteers?
Cake making…
One of my hobbies is to make celebration cakes – it is only a hobby and I only make them for friends and family. At the moment I am in the process of making my first wedding cake which will be for my sisters wedding in September. You may wonder why I am making the cake already when it is mid-August but if you knew me then you would know that I am like Monica out of Friends, far too organised, its like an obsession. I have a strict timetable that I need to stick too and fear that I will lose my sanity if I do not. I am like this in everything I do though – I like to plan ahead, prepare for the worst and boss everyone else about in the process (for their own good of course).
Hen Night
It was my sister’s hen night at the weekend, we went for a meal and then did some serious dancing whilst others did some serious drinking. I bought my sister all of the usual items, veil, L plats, flashing sash and a wand. She seemed to enjoy it all and that’s the main thing…roll on the wedding in 6 weeks.
Back to work
Well I am back in work today after a week in bed ill. It started off with what I thought was a ’24 hour’ sickness bug but once the irritating vomiting subsided I was left with the inability to do anything other than lay still. Every time I tried to even raise my head the whole room started to spin and I had the urge to project vomit all over the wall. Even worse when I tried to stand up and fell over again. The only way I can describe it as when you have gone to bed after one too many and when you close your eyes the room spins like a disco ball – only it was happening with my eyes open. The most depressing part was that it was so sunny outside and I was missing it all, made worse by the fact that when I lay completely still I felt absolutely fine. Anyway enough of the sob story, I am well now and back at work so had better get on with something.
Paint Balling
Well paint balling was not what I had been expecting at all, not that I really knew what to expect. Once we actually found the place it was wet, it was cold and it was very smelly. I managed 4 games before realising paint balling was not my cup of tea at all and then went and had the worst cup of tea of my life. In my naïve little dream world I had expected a lovely little coffee shop where I could sit in the warm with a latte and watch the others play not the three sided leaking shed in the middle of the woods. The day ended with me sat in the car with the heating on full blast and a bag of midget gems so it was all ok in the end. I only got shot once – and that was enough, the bruise on my knee is not attractive. At least my whole body is not covered in sores and bruises like everyone else though.
I have to say that the worst part of the day was people cheating. There was one guy in particular, who was larger than average, who was bossing everyone around before we even started. The rule was one direct hit where the paint ball breaks on you from the head down and your out. So nobody quite understood whilst this guy was never out when he was covered in paint from head to toe at the end of each game. He paid for it in the end though – everyone was told to use their bullets up at the end of the day and everyone turned on him. That’ll teach him to play fair next time.
Helen - Paint Balling
I can’t believe I actually agreed to go to paint balling next weekend. Its going to hurt...I know it. I am having visions of PJ and Duncan on Biker Grove. As a female who prides herself on being very girly and lady like I have no idea why I agreed to go paint balling for a friends birthday next weekend especially after I was told to wear jogging bottoms. I have not owned a pair of jogging bottoms since I was about 8 years old and can’t quite see them going with my Karen Millen stilettos.
I am sure it will be fine though – I have been talking tactics with the other girls and I am pretty sure we can give the men a run for their money...a run in the opposite direction screaming before hiding behind a tree somewhere.
This weekend was pretty good though, it was my sisters birthday so there was a party to go to and good food to be eaten. So I suppose I should see next weekend as karma, one weekend of fun and joy followed by a weekend of pain and misery... although secretly I am quite looking forward to the opportunity of firing balls of pain, I mean paint, at the boss with a semi automatic rifle.
